Promoting Fundamental British Values
In accordance with The Department for Education we aim to actively promote British values in schools to ensure young people leave school prepared for life in modern Britain. Pupils are encouraged to regard people of all faiths, races and cultures with respect and tolerance and understand that while different people may hold different views about what is ‘right’ and ‘wrong’, all people living in England are subject to its law.
The Key Values are:
- democracy
- rule of law
- individual liberty
- mutual respect
- tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs
At Childwall Abbey School, British Values are interwoven throughout the life of the community.
- A rolling programme of Key Stage assemblies cover a wide range of topics, including our Code of Conduct, C.A.S. Mission Statement, Keeping Safe, Respect for others, Relationships.
- We have an active School Council (pupils take part in an annual election process) which is closely involved in gathering Pupil Voice,
- Our close links with our wider multicultural community, including Liverpool Hope University, Liverpool John Moores University, All Saints Church, Friends of Childwall Woods and Fields, Liverpool Womens Hospital, Alder Hey Childrens Hospital all encourage our pupils to look outward to the challenged of life beyond C.A.S.
- All our pupils have opportunities to develop their "team spirit" through Learning Outside the Classroom activities and their involvement in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.
- Key Quality Marks such as the School of Sanctuary Award, Artsmark and Rights Respecting School Award, add breadth and depth to our pupils awareness of the needs and rights of others.
