Liverpool Reading

The Liverpool Reading Quality Mark (RQM) aims to promote reading for enjoyment amongst children. The programme is open to all schools. They work towards a bronze, silver or gold award, which recognises their effort and achievement in working with pupils, parents, carers and the wider community to promote the joy of reading.

There are six themes:

  • Leadership and management
  • Workforce development
  • Reading promotion
  • Reading events and groups
  • School wide opportunities for reading for enjoyment
  • Family/community involvement/ public library service

Childwall Abbey School has achieved the Bronze Level Quality Mark and we aspire to continue our progress.

We dedicate a lot of time to encouraging our children to read, including daily reading sessions for all groups in form time, a Reader of the Week Award in Praise Assembly and special sessions in our school library. Parents and carers can work with us by taking every opportunity to read with their child on a daily basis, both at home and out in the community.

We all want to instil a lifelong love of reading, which can bring so many practical, social and emotional benefits to our children.
