School of Sanctuary

Childwall Abbey School is proud to hold the School of Sanctiary Chartermark. A School of Sanctuary (SoS) is a school that is ‘committed to being a safe and welcoming place for all students and their families. It is a school that helps its students, staff and wider community understand what it means to be seeking sanctuary and to extend a welcome to everyone as equal, valued members of the school community. It is a school that is proud to be a place of safety and inclusion for all.’

There are three principles to becoming a School of Sanctuary:

  • Learn what it means to be seeking sanctuary
  • Take positive action to embed concepts of welcome, safety and inclusion within your school and the wider community.
  • Share your vision and achievements – be proud!

Miss Groves leads our school community to rise to the School of Sanctuary challenge, to support our school Mission Statement and Code of Conduct in this special way.

We have been accredited as a School of Sanctuary until 2026. Miss Groves presented how School of Sanctuary is adopted by Childwall Abbey and shared this with a number of people across the Liverpool community including other schools and the EMTAS team. We attended the awards event in the Autumn Term, 2024. Thank you to all our pupils, staff, governors and the wider school community for their help and support in achieving and maintaining this important accreditation.
