Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission (CQC) will carry out jointly a re-visit of the local area following the previous inspection that took place between 14 January 2019 and 18 January 2019. Please see this letter for further information.
Wishing the whole C.A.S. community a very Happy Easter and a restful holiday. We look forward to seeing you again on 25th April 2022. Please see the link for our Parents newsletter, Key Information update and E-safety advice.
We are delighted to welcome all C.A.S. pupils and staff back to what we hope will be a very Happy New Year. This will be another busy term and we wish all our community peace, joy and good health in 2022.
Our school Covid Risk Assessment and Key Information for Parents and Carers have been updated, with the latest Government advice and we will all continue to work together to keep ourselves and each other safe and well.
Please see this letter from Public Health and Children's Services regarding Covid-19 testing and vaccinations.
Dear Parents/Carers,
Once again, I am writing to you at a time of some uncertainty, as the information regarding Covid safety and the new variant continues to take shape. As always, with your generous understanding and support, we continue to work hard to keep our children attending school and Covid-safe. We follow all advice from the UK Health Security Agency and the Department for Education and update our Risk Assessment (which is on the website) accordingly. An update to our Key Information for Parents and Carers will be sent out next week and will be put up on our website and a letter from Liverpool Public Health will also be available.
We have celebrated this special time of year in safe and manageable ways, with our usual beautiful Christmas tree in the pupils’ entrance. It was purchased from our friends, the Clifford Holroyde School Enterprise Group. We chose an 8-foot-tall tree this year.
Our Sixth-formers decorated it, ably assisted by Year 7 pupils. It looks lovely. We have all enjoyed seeing the lights twinkling every day throughout December. The individual form room trees have also added a festive touch to the school and have been decorated by the pupils in each class in their own special ways.
Our Sixth-form Enterprise Group ran a stall at the All Saints Childwall Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. They were so mature and used their numeracy life-skills expertly to serve customers. Well done everyone!
Ms Barrett has run a Christmas Card design competition this week, for all Key Stages, with prizes for the best efforts. Lots of budding artists as always.
We took part in the Save the Children Christmas Jumper Day appeal on Friday 10th December. Many pupils joined in and £100 was donated. Yet again, it makes us really proud that our pupils and their families are so kind and considerate, thinking of others who are in need and doing what they can to make a difference.
As part of our involvement in the School of Sanctuary project, Miss Groves has led assemblies in each Key stage this week, using the Christmas Story as a starting point for reflection on the experiences of refugees. Our pupils have thought about what it means to need refuge and the emotions and practical experiences involved. As always, they have been kind and thoughtful in their responses.
Christmas lunch in the School Hall will be run on 2 days next week, Key Stage 3 on Monday 20th December and Key Stage 4 and 5 on Tuesday 21st December. This will allow social distancing and ease of service. It will be the usual fun, festive occasion, with good food, jolly Christmas music and crackers to enjoy. Pupils are expected to wear school uniform on these days but if they would like to wear a Christmas jumper instead of their school jumper or cardigan when their Key Stage has Christmas Lunch they may do so.
The final day of term will be an “own clothes” day if pupils would like to take part. There is no charge. It’s just for fun! It is, as always, optional. Those who prefer to wear uniform may do so.
All our pupils will receive a Christmas gift from the School Governors, as they head home for what we hope will be a safe and Merry Christmas holiday for them and for their families. School closes to pupils at 1pm on Wednesday 22nd December.
We look forward to welcoming everyone back to a very Happy New Year on Wednesday 5th January 2022.
(Given the developing Covid situation, please check for texts as we approach the new term, in case of any change to our plans.)
Kind regards.
Cath Piercy
On Friday 10th December, C.A.S. will be having an Own Clothes Day to raise funds for Save the Children’s work, in Britain and abroad. We are asking for a £1 donation. If you have a Christmas jumper, feel free to wear it but please don’t buy one specially. Smart, warm “own clothes” will be fine. The donation will be the same. Pupils who prefer to wear uniform may do so. Thank you.
Please see this link for a copy of the Local Authority letter sent home today to all parent(s)/carer(s) regarding the new Omicron variant of coronavirus.
At Childwall Abbey we love to take every opportunity to help others when we can and our young people’s generosity makes us very proud.
Many thanks go out to all pupils, parents and carers who kindly supported the Children in Need appeal this year. Our “Own Clothes” Day raised a total of £130 for this very special cause, which benefits so many young people. Well done everyone!
Our next Fundraising effort will be the Save the Children “Christmas Jumper Appeal” on Friday 10th December 2021. Everyone is encouraged to wear their favourite Christmas jumper to school, or other appropriate “own clothes”. As always, taking part is optional. We ask for the usual donation of £1, all of which will go to support the wonderful work of Save the Children.
Please see this link for a copy of the letter regarding attendance sent home to parents/carers on 18/11/2021.
As we arrive at the first half-term holiday of this school year, we have an opportunity to reflect on how well the past few weeks of school have gone and to say a huge “Thank-you” to all our wonderful parents, carers, pupils and staff who have worked so hard as a team.
This half-term, we kept in place many of the Covid safety and hygiene measures, to help us stay safe and protect others. We returned to previous start and end of day times, so pupils are in school for all the time they should be. Buses have been mixed from September and we can dismiss pupils from the School Hall at the end of the day. This reduces the amount of time spent waiting for transport. The Friday Rewards “shop” is happening again, the School Library is in use, as are all the Intervention Support rooms. Visitors who provide face to face interventions or assessments for pupils have been back on site. Recently, staff have been able to rearrange desks in classes, to allow pupils to work together in groups, which everyone has enjoyed. The goal after half-term is to extend access to the Art Room, Science Lab and Computing Room to groups other than Key Stage 4. All this brings us much nearer to being our “old selves”.
The vast majority of pupils have behaved very sensibly with regard to Covid Safety. After Half-term, any pupil who wishes to bring a personal water bottle into school may do so. These bottles may not be shared. (This is always an important hygiene rule!). In keeping with our Healthy Schools rules, pupils must not bring juice or any drink except water into school, unless for a medical reason. Clean, fresh drinking water is always available in classes so bringing a water bottle is a choice not an expectation.
Pupils are still asked not to bring personal items into school, especially lanyards or cuddly toys of any size. Bags, if needed must be marked with the pupil’s name and small enough to hang up safely, out of the way.
Covid home-testing kits remain available to all pupils. All pupils have been given some for testing during the holiday. Additional kits can be requested from the school info@childwallabbeyschool email address. We would like to send a big “well done!” to all the Year 7-11 pupils who felt able to have the Covid vaccination last week. They were very brave and mature. This is another step towards keeping everyone safe and well.
Many thanks go out to all our parents and carers for sending your children to school in full uniform and with the appropriate PE kit. They look so smart and ready to learn. Please remember, as the weather gets colder and wetter, that all our pupils need to bring a waterproof coat with a hood and wear appropriate shoes for the autumn and winter months. This is especially important as we are still taking every opportunity to go outside for lessons and during breaktimes.
Keeping Safe has been a theme of some of our assemblies and is always a priority at C.A.S. Please remember that our children can be extremely vulnerable to online harm. The Parents section of the C.A.S. website has a list of Useful Links, which includes –
All these links are full of good advice and guidance if you have any concerns regarding your child’s safety online or in other circumstances. We would urge you to be vigilant and seek support if necessary.
Wishing you all a very happy and restful half-term holiday and looking forward to seeing our pupils again on Monday 1st November 2021.
