  • Face coverings in schools – Latest public health instructions

    Tue 15 Sep 2020

15/09/2020 – Please note the latest Public Health Liverpool instructions received by Mrs Piercy today regarding face coverings in schools.

    Essential use of face coverings

Dear Head teacher, levels of COVID-19 in Liverpool are high and increasing every day – we need to take urgent action.

It is now essential that parents and carers in Liverpool wear face coverings when collecting and dropping off their children at school.   All school staff should role model best practice by also wearing a face covering if supervising during collection or drop off.  Those who refuse or cannot wear face coverings should maintain social distancing of at least 2m from children and other parents/ carers.

We thank you in advance for ensuring greater levels of safety in your school and our communities.

    Many thanks,

Matthew Ashton (Director of Public Health Liverpool City Council)

Thank you in advance for helping to keep our community safe and our school open.

    Fri 11 Sep 2020

    Dear parents,

ALERT: We have seen a significant increase in COVID-19 positive cases this week in Liverpool. We need your help and ask that your child limits group contact with friends over the weekend.  When out and about your whole family should stay at least 2 metres away from anyone not from your household, wash hands often and wear face coverings when appropriate. Thank you for your support. For further information visit: https://liverpoolexpress.co.uk/message-to-schools/

  • Welcome back!

    Wed 02 Sep 2020

All staff at Childwall Abbey School have been working hard to prepare to welcome our pupils back to school, as safely as possible. We have missed being together and are looking forward to catching up with everyone and welcoming our new starters. Mostly, the school will look and feel the same, but there are a few changes in place, to keep everyone safe and well. Change can be difficult and we are ready to help anyone who might struggle.

We have lots of exciting new equipment and facilities on the playgrounds and in classrooms. Pupils will be spending a lot of time with their form staff while they settle back into school. Years 7, 8, 9,10 and 11 (Key Stage 3 and 4) will return to school on the morning of 3rd September 2020.  Sixth-form students and Nurture Group pupils will return to school on the morning of 7th September 2020. We can’t wait to see you!

  • Warning over confirmed South Liverpool COVID-19 cases

    Wed 15 Jul 2020

An increase in confirmed cases of young people with coronavirus in south Liverpool has led public health officials to warn that the illness can infect anyone, regardless of age.

There have been around 30 cases in the area over the last fortnight, with half of them in people aged 15-24.  The places affected include Belle Vale, Childwall, Woolton, Knotty Ash, Allerton and Hunts Cross. There have also been a number of cases in Halewood.

Matt Ashton, Liverpool’s Director of Public Health, said: “Everyone is at risk of COVID-19, but we know that there is a perception among younger people that they are less at risk.

“The easing of the lockdown means this is a really dangerous moment for case numbers, and we need people not to let their guard down and throw away all of the sacrifices we have made since March.

“We owe it to each other to take precautions and look after each other, regardless of their age.

“This is not just about your own individual risk, but the chances of you passing it on to your own family and friends, some of which may be in vulnerable groups and could become seriously ill.

“So we need everyone to follow the rules, such as avoiding crowds of people and social gatherings, following social distancing guidelines, and using face coverings on public transport and in supermarkets.

“Regardless of where you live, if you do develop symptoms, please make sure you isolate, book a test through the NHS website, and then if it is positive we can use contact tracing to help find other that may be at risk.

“If everyone follows the guidance we can help control the virus and minimise the impact on ourselves and our loved ones.”

Dr Sarah McNulty, Director of Public Health in Knowsley, added: “I can’t stress enough how important it is to stay at home if you develop symptoms and get tested, particularly with lockdown measures easing and pubs and bars now reopening.

“It is so important that social distancing is part of your everyday life – you don’t know who has it and who could be spreading it, but if you’re within 2 metres of them for more than 15 minutes and they test positive, you will have to self-isolate for 14 days.”

Mobile testing centres will be in the area over the next week or so, carrying out swab tests on people with symptoms who have pre-booked via the NHS website.

Woolton: Saturday 11 July and Sunday 12 July
Wavertree: Monday 13 July to Wednesday 15 July
Halewood: Tuesday 14 July to Friday 17 July, and Friday 24 July to Sunday 26 July.

Booking a test can only be done through the NHS website here and full instructions and the location are sent with the confirmation – you cannot just turn up without an appointment.

More information about COVID-19 symptoms and guidance can be found on the NHS website at https://www.nhs.uk/

  • Message for Parents and Carers July 2020

    Fri 03 Jul 2020

Childwall Abbey School is currently open and providing childcare for highly vulnerable and critical workers children from KS 3, 4 and 5, clustered in three bubbles.

We are now planning to re-open to all students in September, based on a detailed risk assessment for the whole school and individual risk assessments for all pupils, following current government guidelines. When we have more details, these will be shared with parents and carers.

Parents/carers of children who have been advised to shield or who have other medical advice which means they cannot attend school are asked to inform school of this in writing, as soon as possible, via the school email address.

Year 10 students will be experiencing face to face sessions with C.A.S. staff next week. New starters for September ’20 are currently receiving virtual transition support.

Summer fun packs will be delivered to all C.A.S. students up to Year 10 during the last week of term and Sixth-form students will also receive a treat!

Please find a link to the latest Department for Education advice here.

  • School leavers

    Thu 25 Jun 2020

Amazingly, we have arrived at the time of year when we say a fond farewell to all our Year 11 pupils and our Sixth-form leavers. This term has been a very strange one and we have already been apart for quite a long time. This does not mean that we have forgotten you. To those who are leaving Childwall Abbey School to move on to college or work, we say a hearty WELL DONE! Now is your time to shine so GO FOR IT! To those who will be returning to join us as Sixth-form students, we say enjoy the summer and we’ll see you soon for exciting and challenging new opportunities.

We are already so proud of you and we will make sure that we meet again at our Awards Assembly once your exam certificates arrive, later in the Autumn Term. Watch the post over the next few days – a little something is coming your way from Mrs Piercy and all the staff at C.A.S. to say well done, good luck and lots of love to you all.

  • Welcome back…

    Mon 01 Jun 2020

We hope that all the members of our school community had a happy, peaceful and sunny half-term and that everyone managed a little time outdoors.  Thank you to those folks who kindly sent their good wishes to staff.  From today there will be lots more fun activity ideas appearing on our work page and Twitter.  Look out for things you would like to do and feel free to share pics of your achievements if parents and carers are happy that it is safe for you to do this.  Always ask them first! (Parents/carers please check out the online safety advice further down this page and on our Parents/Carers Online Safety section)  Staff will be resuming well-being calls to families from today.

For the foreseeable future, there will be no change to arrangements for working from home, staying safe and well. When the situation is safe and plans do begin to change, parents and carers will hear directly from school.
